New Site Feature
Entered on: August 20, 2003 7:24 PM by Ross
It won't work on your current visit to the site, but the next time you log in, the "Latest Comments" box will show a yellow [NEW] next to a comment that was left after you last logged in. The reason it doesn't work the first time is that before now I wasn't tracking the last time you logged in, so everyone's "last login" time is set to sometime around when I was adding this feature.

Anyway, hopefully it will make it easier to see what you have and haven't seen in the future.

NEWS 100 - 26 Comments

Great idea, Mr. J!

Sweet Jesus this site just keeps getting better. How about a visit counter?

From: Ross Entered on: August 20, 2003 11:45 PM
Sure, I can put one in. Only thing is, is that it will start from the time I put it in so the hundreds of visits you've had prior will not be counted, of course.

Also I forgot to put a flag in there to not show [NEW] next to your own comments. I'll try to put that in tonight.

From: Jackzilla Entered on: August 21, 2003 9:03 AM
I like flags. Flags are fun. Flags can turn the Mundane into the Exceptional. I think I'll go look at the BORN-TO-BE-FAT Ross pic again!

Instead of "[NEW]" It'd be sweet if you could put a thumbnail of the person's face who left the comment.

Now THAT would be Exceedingly Exceptional!

I don't understand, Creeko. Why would their picture indicate the "newness" of the message? Besides, I'm not guaranteed to have a picture of everyone who can leave a message on this site.

From: Jackzilla Entered on: August 21, 2003 9:26 AM
Oooh! Little thumbnails of people's pics besides comments would be sweet! Not just the Latest Comments section, but the 'comments page' for a message (where you go to read everyone's comments) would be sweeter yet! You could use the pics from the main page, and then have some default generic pic for someone you don't have a pic of.

Ross - Are you still thinking of having an ABOUT ME page for everyone where we could edit our own personal data? On that page you could give us the ability to upload a photo/avatar for our comments.

Now get to it - We don't pay you all that cash to sit around!

From: Ross Entered on: August 21, 2003 9:30 AM
Yeah, the easiest way would be to let you upload html pages/photos and just give you a subdirectory of the site, say http://www.jackassery.com/jackzilla would be yours. It's a fairly involved job though which is why I haven't tackled it. Perhaps if I ever get a nice quiet weekend I can get on that one. But this weekend does not appear to be it.

However, as far as people's mugshots next to their comments go, I suppose that could be accomplished without too much effort and would be pretty cool. Jack, your mission is to find me a suitable image for people whose mugshots we don't have. Like a shadowy silouhette with a question mark in it or something.

re: silouhette graphic - Check your mailbox!

Damn you're good!

From: Ross Entered on: August 21, 2003 4:34 PM
Site was down for a few hours today, not sure what happened. Hopefully things stay good now...

From: Jackzilla Entered on: August 21, 2003 5:07 PM
Damn! I was hoping you were performing some magic on the site and it would come back with our little faces all over the place!

From: Ross Entered on: August 21, 2003 8:47 PM
Your wish is my command. Thumbnail mugshots will be in place within 5 minutes from the time of this post.

From: Jackzilla Entered on: August 21, 2003 9:01 PM
SWEET! Looky at my cute little mug!

From: Jackzilla Entered on: August 21, 2003 9:04 PM
You're awesome Ross! This is fucking hilarious!

From: BigFatty Entered on: August 21, 2003 10:47 PM
I love this little pictures! Great idea Creeko! My picture is not that great. Everyone else has their little head looking like it is saying something. Jack's picture is perfect - it looks like he is saying something LOUD and spunky - just like him. John's is good too - hes got that smirky look about him like he is happy you just besmirched your pants.

Fatness - perhaps your pic should be officially changed to the "T-Rex" style (last seen on the first BORN TO BE FAT pic)... the one with your mouth open.

From: Ross Entered on: August 21, 2003 10:56 PM
Fatty, I can change your pic for you in a day or two. I'll have to cut out the T-Rex pic and whatnot and I'm not up for any more mods tonight.

The silouhette-with-question-mark icon is sweet too! I checked out Willie's professor's entry again just so I could check it out!

From: BigFatty Entered on: August 21, 2003 11:09 PM
The open-mouthed fatty (sounds like a sandwich) pic will be good - just tilt it like yours and Jacks. Tilting things makes them funny - AND I KNOW FUNNY!

I liked the mysterious stranger icon too.

Mmmmm - Open Mouthed Fatty Sadnwitch.
Reminds me of Homer's golf outing with Mr. Burns.
Burns: "Try using an open faced club... a sand wedge".
Homer: "Mmmm... Open faced club sandwitch".

From: Creeko Entered on: August 22, 2003 3:55 AM
Ross, you're sweet. The faces are totally awsome to the max dude!

From: Ross Entered on: August 22, 2003 7:28 AM
Done.

I see that you've modified the web log archive. Nice job.
Keep up the good work. Like Zilla said, we don't pay you to sit around on your ass and eat doughnuts.

Thanks, I was going to wait to see if anyone noticed this time instead of announcing it. :) I figured the page would start getting ridiculously long and rather than put in a paging scheme I decided to just clean it up a bit.
