Fatty is at it again - ATKINS
Entered on: November 2, 2003 3:18 PM by BigFatty
Yep - I'm giving the weight loss another try. This time, I'm trying Atkins. I've been curious about it and got the book. Very similar to Spears, except there is an extreme Induction phase where you eat almost no carbs. You eat protein and fat. You don't even count calories. So far that is not so bad. Granted I'm not going hog wild eating. The diet and the resulting lipolysis (where your body metabalizes its own fat) curb your appitite. The three other phases help you zero in on the exact amount of carbs you can take in (daily) until you gain weight again. I would like to use this in conjunction with The Zone (which is a healthier diet in my opinion). Atkins will get the fat off quick and give me my upper carb limits to use with the Zone. Atkins says the same thing as Spears - You can't eat like a normal American and be healthy - no processed foods and carbs mainly from vegetables and fruits.

Wish me luck, an I'll keep you posted. I tested if I was in lipolysis with a Ketostick yesterday. I did a baseline 2 days before. The test was positive for keytones, which are the by-products of burning fat. My first official weigh in is Monday. Base weight - 201 pounds.

I may have been thinking of pickle spears. Here is my Atkins log. I did do the second measuring after a workout, so my arms and chest are pumped slightly. I will continue to measure after workouts to keep consistant.

I'm betting the Atkins will soon morph into the Fatkins.

Fatkins update - Weighed in today at 190.08! The pounds are coming off, that is for sure. Figuring 5 pounds for excess water, it is still damn fast. I'm expecting the weight loss to slow now. I'm going to stay in the induction phase for a few more weeks or until I hit 180. It is not easy. I've been wanted some pizza bad! Plus eating a cheeseburger without the bun just isn't the same.

Here is the tally - Total weight lost 11 pounds
Total inches 2.75

Not to bring you down, but are you a leaner guy at 190.08 or just a smaller version of fatness? Also, .08? That is some attention to detail.

Yeah, isn't the margin of error on your scale a bit more than .01 lbs?

Anyway, Fatty, more power to you. I'm interested to see how this works out for you. I definitely encourage you to stick with it as long as you and can (and as long as it still works). I don't think I'd do it myself, but if it works, do it.

Eat a cheeseburger for me, Mr. Fatastic.

I'm both a leaner guy and a smaller version of fatness. There is definate visible fat loss. The .08 was left over in the Kg-Lb conversion. The scale at the club is stuck in Kg. It is highly annoying. I brought my trusty calulator to handle all dem numbers. I don't know why I wrote .08 down - it is meaningless.

I am having huge cravings for a P'zone at the hut. Another good reason to get a Tivo - no tasty commericals to tantilize you. I'm thinking when I get to 180, I'll get a P'zone and some burgers. I'll start on a more realistic version of the diet - more zone related, but giving me 1 to 2 cheat meals a week.
