Well, it finally happened...

...I got my first speeding ticket yesterday while driving back to Chicago from Grand Rapids. I was on I-90, just inside the Illinois border. Traffic was light, and I was in the right lane doing 75 in a 55. The cop nabbed me free and clear, and there was no mistaking who he nailed. The whole process went much smoother than I had feared, as I (and others) knew this day would come after getting my new car.

But it looks like I can pay an extra $30 (on top of the $75 for ticket) and do an online traffic school and not have it put on my record, which looks like a pretty good deal.

That really does suck, but it did seem inevitable. Within the past few weeks I think we even discussed the possibility. It sounds like you got a pretty good deal though, so that's cool.

Yes, even Heather pointed out that I would likely get at least one this summer. I find that it's nearly impossible to get one while driving IN Chicago, though... you never get going fast enough. Perhaps on a weekend driving to the burbs, but that's about it. The danger is in the road trips.

Dude - The extra $30 and online traffic school is a sweet deal! It far outweights the cost of insurance increases for 3 years. Granted one ticket may not be enough - but this is the first of many I'm sure.

I looks like if you pay $100, you can speed all you want. That's sweet!

Have you consideresd a radar jammer. A couple guys I know got BMWs with these things installed and they claim it works.

Thanks for the link Bone, I was considering getting a radar detector. Actually I didn't know there were jammers. I'll have to look into it. I was nabbed by radar but the ticket has a check box for laser as well which I assume is an entirely separate ball of wax.

And Fatty: Welcome back my friend! But alas, no it is not that simple. I am eligible for traffic school since I've never had a ticket or taken it before. I think after this, you can do an 8 hour version (this first one is 4) and after that, they start pulling your pants down and anally violating you right on the scene.
