Xbox 360 Spring System Update
Entered on: May 9, 2007 3:26 PM by Ross

This is enough to get me excited about turning my Xbox back on again!  Check out the new updates they're including, particularly these:

  • Added H.264 video support: Up to 10 Mbps peak, Baseline, Main, and High profiles with 2 channel AAC LC.
  • Added MPEG-4 Part 2 video support: Up to 5 Mbps peak, Simple Profile with 2 channel AAC LC.

Very exciting!  This potentially makes the 360 that much closer to the glory of the original Xbox's XBMC.  With this we should be able to play all those XviDs that we've, ahem... acquired over the years...

Shit ninja!  The new GEARS OF WAR maps should be reason to turn on your 360!  Better get 'em and practice a little before the ZAGNUT showing... ZOW!

Bert!  Dude!  I think you need to sell your 360 to someone who will show it some love.  If it were a puppy it would be dead -- Lying stiff in a corner, partially hidden under an old, discarded pizza box.  Boot that bitch up and play some Gears with us!

Speaking of booting bitches, is BigFatty in the states yet!?  Good Lord!  I haven't heard a peep from him!  Did you guys hang out in Chicago or what?

Yeah, we picked him up on Saturday and went to a couple of burger joints over the weekend.  He hopped on a train to GR yesterday around 5:30 so got into town sometime that night, I think Creeko and his pops were picking him up.  Only thing is, he doesn't as yet have cell phone access... I expect he'll have it soon, though.

Yes, I have been lax in my 360 duties.  Life is hectic.  I want to get back into the swing of it soon though - BTW, should I bring mine this weekend?  Are we going to have time to play?

Bert - You guys stopped and got a burger at Paradise Pup, right?  LOVE ME some Paradise Pup!

Aww, fark you arsehurl!

The above exchange was based on Ross, Fatty, and H-Bomb taking a road trip to a top rated burger joint in the outskirts of Chicago. Ross found a guide to the Best Burgers in Chicago, and Fatty thought the Paradise Pup looked interesting. Ross had his reservations with it being so far away, and should have made a stronger case against it. The estimated 20 min drive turned out to be an hour-long driving ordeal for Ross who fell off his rocker a few times. When we finally arrived to the 25 year-old, run down, icon, the Paradise Pup was of course, closed. Ross, somehow controlled a nuclear meltdown. But, things turned out well for our heroes, cuz we were a short drive to Johnny's - the #1 Italian Beef in Chicago. The honor was well deserved and the beef and sausage combo was very tasty! The Italian Ice was an added bonus too!

Well told, Fatty.  We all (barely) lived to eat another day.

Yeah, well, I went to this place last week while making a very brief trip to Chicago, and the burgers are fucking AWESOME. And not just because they're named after heavy metal bands. Great beer selection, too. Bert, you need to try this place.

Dude!  That's where we went first! It's rated the #1 Pub burger in Chicago!  It's right by where Hirsch lives, and he's been singing its praises for a while.  Also, yes, the beers are great, and they have some from my favorite brewery, Three Floyds, on tap.

Fatty and I sampled the flagship Kuma burger (the one with the egg on top) and the Mastodon, which had barbecue sauce and fried onions on it.  Both were superb.

That's hilarious that you just went there.

Halo 3 Update:

Official Street Date:  September 25, 2007!

Meanwhile, I should be playing the beta tonight (Bert, did you get Crackdown for the beta?)

From: Ross Entered on: May 16, 2007 10:52 AM
I didn't!  I have only played the demo of Crackdown (which was fun).  I was planning to get it from Gamefly soon.  I'm jealous that you're getting to play the Halo 3 beta, though.

Halo 3 beta:  Not bad, takes a little getting used to (the controls for weapons are different with dual, independent reloading and whatnot).  But I gotta say -- and I feel like a cheating husband for saying this -- I like Gears of War better.

Bert - If its not too much hassle, I'd say pack up your 360 for the weekend.  I'm hoping we can play in the ZAGNUT Sunday afternoon or something.  I have 3 machines with GOW hooked up right now, so we could definately have some times!

(I know there was talk of seeing Spidey 3 on IMAX Sunday afternoon, but I think GOW would offer more male bonding and time for fellowship, so that's my vote!)

Okay, I know there won't be time for both Spidey 3 and GoW, and I'm up for either... my only concern is that Heather will definitely prefer the former.  I'll pack up the 360 just in case, though.

I was looking at Xbox for $399 and Xbox Elite for $479 today. Is it worth the extra $80 for the elite?

From: Jackzilla Entered on: July 31, 2007 12:02 AM

Wait a couple weeks.  Rumor is there's a $50 price drop coming for all the 360's.

If you really like black and/or plan on buying and downloading a lot of TV shows & movies (and need the bigger hdd) then get the Elite.  Otherwise, just get the Pro.  Stay away from the Core.  Games to get?  Gears of War of course.  Then, you might as well get Burnout Revenge and Fight Night 3 -- I think they both can be had for 20 bucks now.

I can't wait to drop you, smoke you, diddle you and then donkey punch you in Gears.  It's a good time.
