Papa Zilla Presents...
Entered on: July 31, 2007 11:45 PM by Jackzilla

Anna Evangeline Reedy

born July 31, 2007

I woke up today to "Jack!  I need you!" at 7:30 this morning.  Angie's water broke while she was getting ready for work.  We call the doc, he says see ya at the hospital.  We hadn't even packed yet (she was due in 15 days), so we quickly put together some stuff.  So much for planning ahead.  She had very faint cramps about 3 minutes apart.  By noon the cramps had become full on contractions and quite a bit of pain!  She had her epidural in at around 1 PM, which completely eliminated the pain of contractions (and her knee that she was suffering with these days).  Angie then visited with family and read People magazine.

At around 6PM or so she was fully dialated and the nurse said to give a push.  "Oh!  We're ready to go!  We better wait for the doctor!"   Now this is the insane part:  The doctor barely sits down, tells Ang to push, and *TA DA!* we have a baby!  That quick!  One full push!  They weren't even prepared for how fast it came!

Anna's a cute little peanut at just 5 lbs 15 ozs... under 6 pounds!  She's pocket size and perfect!  I was there the whole time and it was amazing.  I swelled up with emotion and couldn't believe my eyes!

But boy am I tired!  I gotta get some sleep as morning will be here soon and I'll be headed back to the hospital!

I'll get some photos posted later!

Bert - You're up next!

Hey, I was born today too. Only in 1973. and probably not as cute. Congradulantions.

Congradulantions, Zilla family!  Can't wait for the pics!  I hope everything goes as smoothly for us as it did for you guys.

So we'll see you on Gears later right?  Just kidding.  Congratulations Zills.

It would be really sweet if Radmobile filled in for you on Gears night....

From: Heather Entered on: August 1, 2007 9:34 AM

Congratulations Jack and Angie!  I can't wait to see pictures of little Anna.

Even though we're having a c-section and the experience will be quite different, I hope we have it as easy as you seemed to.  That's great that Angie didn't have to go through hours of labor.  Send her my best!

Happy Birthday, Bone!  I don't want you to feel left out with all this baby news! Laughing

From: Creeko Entered on: August 1, 2007 4:12 PM

There'll be no more Gears for you for a long time my friend. You might consider selling off all your gaming gear until the next generation console comes around.

You'll be too ga ga to over little Anna to care anyway.

Congrats to you and Angie

Condradulantions, Zilla and Angie!

What a week - Brian Vander Ark and a baby, all within four days. Now wait... I think Vander Ark's daughter is named Evangeline, no? Great name, by the way.

From: Bunky Entered on: August 2, 2007 9:28 AM
All right Zilla, you have Brian Vander Ark's photo on here, but I don't see Anna's picture.... Post some new family photos. I can't wait to see your little girl.

Hey everybody!  Sorry for the delayed response!  Here's a couple pics for the baby lovers!

Bone - Happy Birthday, MFer!

Bert & Heather - Good luck next week.  We hope everything goes well for you.  The whole experience is just unbelievable!

Swerb - Re: Evangeline - It evolved from us loving the name "Evey" (Natalie Portman's character's name in V For Vendetta which we just loved).  But we wanted a longer, proper name (Evey just seems more of a nickname): thus Evangeline (rhymes with KEEN).  But I don't believe in saddling a kid with a difficult first name, and we've loved the name Anna for a long time.  So... we combined them!  Brian Vander Ark's girl's first name is Evangeline (although they pronounce it "Evange-LINE").  I was surprised to learn that, and Ang in fact wanted to give up the name entirely for fear that people thought we were copying him, but I convinced her otherwise.  We know the truth!

The name thing was fun.  We had a few combinations we were toying with, and never told anyone (including our parents who were going insane to know!).  Monday night -- the day before Anna was born! -- We had just made the final decision on her name, just in time!

By the way, did y'all notice Anna's chin?  That's MY butt chin!  :)

From: Heather Entered on: August 4, 2007 6:18 PM

Anna is adorable, Zilla!  Congratulations again.  I hope Angie is doing well and getting some rest.

We are counting down the days now, especially since we have a definite date.  I think knowing when it's going to happen is worse than the unknown.

From: BigFatty Entered on: August 5, 2007 1:58 AM

Dude!!!! You're the mama!  Confatulations.  Sorry for the late response.  I was on vacation and away from computers for a few days (I think I just blew Ross' mind).  Wow, what a beautiful girl and a cool name!  We liked Anna too,  but it was off our list because of my niece.  I am glad everything went so fast, smooth, and easy.  I am going to get some People magazines for Leeeenda to make things easy on her.

Everyone here in Budapest was excited to hear your news and thanks for the pics.  I now see the Zilla family expansion pack will happily take up a lot of your Gears time.  Get ready for POOP!

Happy B-Lated to you too Bone.... I was aware of your B-day, but not able to write you.  Good Lord - the great Bone is now in his Mid-thirties..... (expected Bone reponse...... Shit, I'm in the best shape of my live and and pulling more bitches than I ever have...)

SO - F THE BONE!  F HIM IN THE A!

Happy Birthday you motherfucker. :)

THE FAT IS BACK!

Dude!  I can't stop kissing her!  But I gotta tell ya, I'm not the mama yet.  Somehow I've avoided changing a single diaper so far.  I know my time will come, but so far Ang and her mom are taking doo-ty duty.

So far our biggest problem has been that she likes to sleep all day...  and is wide awake from midnight to 4 AM!  She's a night owl like me!  That's getting to be a bit much.  Granted I snore through most of her crying, but Angie needs some rest!  :P

And a week from today?  Wizard World Chicago!  The crew will consist of Jackzilla, Bad Andy (aka "BAAADNEEESSS!"), Johnnybells, Radmobile and ... Pat.  Bert - You'll no doubt be busy with baby duty, so I won't expect to see you around attempting to obtain questionable pics of Power Girl.

From: Bunky Entered on: August 5, 2007 6:14 PM

Zilla- Your daughter is perfect! She is absoultely beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing her pictures. You look so happy holding her and I am excited for the both of you.

Ross- good luck to you and your wife. I hope everything goes as smoothly for you as it did for Zilla.

I'm sure you can't help snapping all the pics of Anna.  I can't wait to see all the cute things Logan does that warrant the same photographic response.  You and Ross will soon be in competition to see who can get more pictures of his baby on the front page of JA!  Let the games begin...

Speaking of games: I saw that Angie let you have some Gears time last night.  What a woman!  I'm sure Ross hopes I'm as kind in the coming weeks.Laughing

Zilla, Gongratz on the baby.  She is such a little peanut.  She definitely has your butt chin.  Didn't she try to pick up a controller when we were over on Sunday?  Our daughters can fight over the boys in school when they get old enough.  Awesome.

You boys have fun in Chicago.  I would love to go but there is this money thing, oh yeah, and I somehow don't think Megan would let me go.

From: Jackzilla Entered on: August 8, 2007 8:36 AM
I figured the reason you hadn't posted lately was because the very sight of your avatar made your scrotum hurt.

From: NickNick Entered on: August 8, 2007 10:04 AM
Holy shit!! I never put two and two together. I thought it hurt just from the fact that it's always had to transport two massive testicles.

Are you saying you're "all potatoes "?

From: Ross Entered on: August 8, 2007 12:55 PM
I have to say, NickNick's avatar rivals Fatty's for sheer hilarity on every message.  Whereas Fatty's implies that he's loudly shouting whatever he says, NickNick's indicates that he is freaked out by pretty much everything.

From: NickNick Entered on: August 8, 2007 1:34 PM

Oh no.  There is still the aspect of the massive tree trunk attached to my boulders, but I was trying to spare you all that visual.

As per my avatar.  Put a beard on me and I'm Michael Moore.

Bert and Heather - Just two more days!  Getting excited yet?

So, you know when you have a dentist appointment and they call to remind you a couple days before?  Well, has the doctor's office felt the need to remind you of your appointment Friday? ... Just in case you forgot you were scheduled to have a baby...  I'm guessing it's a bit unnecessary.

So we're going to be in town on Sunday for the Con (the full crew consists of Zilla, Bad Andy, Rad, Bells, Crockett and Patrick [sweet nickname TBA]).  I don't know if you'll be wanting visitors that soon -- or if the rest of the fellas are up to it after the shenanigans -- but maybe there'll be a showing(?).

From: Heather Entered on: August 8, 2007 5:59 PM

We are definitely excited and no, the reminder phone call will not be necessary for this appointment considering I've been counting down the days for the past week. Laughing

We will still be at the hospital, but you are all more than welcome to come meet Logan on Sunday.  Otherwise, I'm sure we will be making a GR trip sometime in September or October while Ross is off work.

How's little Anna coping with this crazy world?  Hopefully she is making your and Angie's adjustments to parenthood easy.  Since I've seen you playing Gears, I assume she is a well-behaved girl already.

From: Ross Entered on: August 8, 2007 6:31 PM
You guys definitely can stop by if you want - we'll be at Northwestern Prentice Hospital (map), which is easy to get to from either Lake Shore Drive or from 90/94.  It's right off Michigan Ave.

We're gonna be sporting our Rookies shirts too.  I'm a little afraid we'll be mistaken for a "special needs" field trip if we're all in uniform though.  Now that I think of it though, it's not far from the truth.  Anyway, it should be fun.  I think "Fat Momma" is gonna be there from that Who Wants to be a Super Hero show.  And Johnny's friends Lou Ferigno and Dazza are supposed to be back as well.

H-Bomb, Ross - Best of luck to you two (three) and we hope everything goes as smooth as Angie's. Melinda and I will keep you in our thoughts. We will give you a call next week when things settle down and get a full report!

From: BigFatty Entered on: August 10, 2007 2:43 AM

This Patrick guy..... it is not TallPat... is it the dude from Clixs?  The Fatty-hater?  I'll be nice and start him with a nickname then put it into the Virtual JohnnyBell's Nickname Morpher.  Here it goes!  I choose the name 'The Artist Formally Known As Pat' or TAFKAPAT which easily lends itself to AFLAC!, which must be said in the AFLAC Duck voice. AFLAC! is then 3rd Generationized in the Virtual Bells Nickname Morpher to F-PAT! in the same duck voice.

There, he has a new, properly seasoned nickname, JA style.  Compliments of Fatty.  I am sure he will love it!

From: Heather Entered on: August 10, 2007 4:03 AM

Thanks, Fatty!  We are very excited to finally meet Logan!  I'm sure Ross will post a full report as soon as possible.  We look forward to hearing from you and Melinda next week.

BTW, do you know the gender of your baby yet?  How's Melinda feeling?

I'm hoping to head out there with you all.  Natron isn't going and I'm pretty sure Bad Andy's car can't take my fatass, so I was hoping for another car going.  I can offer mine if the price is right and BONUS!  I have a Rookies shirt, too!

That's because he's had plenty of practice, but usually as the target.

In the father's waiting area now as they're doing the epidural for Heather. Should be called in any minute now, and I should be a father within an hour or so...

By the way, they let me watch during Ang's epidural process... :)

Awww, bite me daddy-o. If your kid can look at your mug then she can handle anything.

From: Jackzilla Entered on: November 14, 2007 10:42 PM

Okay recent dads - let's compare notes!

At 3-1/2 months it seems that Angie & I are really lucking out over here with Anna's nighttime sleeping.  We tend to get her to bed late (9-10 pm) and then she'll sleep til 7:30-9am.  In fact she hasn't woke us up in the middle of the night in weeks.  Am I right in assuming we're doing better than average here?

From: BigFatty Entered on: November 15, 2007 4:25 AM

Fruk YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  What is sleep??  I 'volunteered' for a 'training' in the UK only so I could catch a few nights of sleep.  Vivien still is eating  EVERY 2-4 hours (we are lucky to get 4 straight hours at night.)  Plus she is colicy, so many nights are a scream-fest.

Welcome to fatherhood!

Our next child will be a 17 year-old Russian supermodel adoptee.

From: NickNick Entered on: November 15, 2007 7:49 AM

You are pretty lucky.  Even Reese, whom I think is a very well behaved baby, gets up at least once a night to eat.  She's usually in bed by 8 or 9 though, get's between 3 and 5, stays up long enough to eat and then gets up around 9.

I think more parents get to experience the fun that Will is having right now.  Enjoy the sleep while you can, Jack.  There will soon come a time when Anna decides that it's more fun to stay awake than to sleep.  You can cry on my shoulder when that day comes.  I have plenty of kleenex, because I know I'll need it again.

From: Bunky Entered on: November 15, 2007 9:42 AM
I am getting a strange Woody Allen vibe from Fatty....

From: Ross Entered on: November 15, 2007 10:19 AM

Yes Jack, you are lucky, as I'm sure you were already aware, but wanted to rub our faces in it. :)

Logan can occasionally sleep almost as long as Anna does, but we have a hard time keeping him awake till 9 or 10 like you guys do.  He's usually nodding off around 7 every night.  But most nights he wakes momma up a couple of times (Daddy is using earplugs since he gets up for work and Mom doesn't have to - Mom is very understanding that way).

So you can bask in the glory of your genetically gifted sleepaholic offspring. :)

From: Creeko Entered on: November 15, 2007 2:43 PM

Hugo usually goes to bed around 9, but doesn't fall to sleep until we go to bed around 12:00.

I am not fortunate enough to have a wife that lets me sleep for work. We have an understanding that if I can't breast feed, the least I can do is change a diaper or two in the middle of the night.

Don't fret Fatty, it's usually not until 3 months that a baby learns to sleep and understands the difference between day and night patterns.

And just to save Zilla the trouble of having to type a new entry, yes, I am the mama.

Ross said:

And bask I shall!  I really don't want to rub y'all's faces in it like a dirty diaper, but last night we put Anna to bed at 8:30 PM and she woke up at 7:30 AM today.  That's just how she rolls!

Bert - Have you tried feeding Logan any food yet?  We started last week giving Anna just a wee-bit of a cereal-breast-milk concoction.  Sometimes her face scrunches up (like me when I eat rancid ketchup), which is kind of amusing.

From: Heather Entered on: November 20, 2007 1:15 PM

I thought I'd chime in here since I'm the one who gets up during the night.  As Ross said, Logan can't usually make it past 7pm.  However, he has been sleeping straight through until 4am most nights for a little over a week now.  I feed him and then he's out again until 7am.  It's a nice change to the hell that Fatty is currently going through.  Been there, done that and I feel for you and Melinda!  As everyone told me: "It will get better".

As for introducing food...we haven't come to that bridge yet.  We have Logan's 4month checkup December 11 and will have that discussion with the pediatrician then.

Anna Update!

We've reached a milestone!  Anna had her first solid poop yesterday!  What a proud papa I continue to be!

From: Ross Entered on: December 18, 2007 10:33 AM

Is she eating solid foods?  Logan is still exclusively on breastmilk and he for a while there he was only pooping every 2 or 3 days... though I believe Heather reported a triple-deuce yesterday, but they all look like tar.

Also, he does have some powerful man farts - both from a volume level and from the smell factor.

From: Jackzilla Entered on: December 18, 2007 11:02 AM
Yeah, we've been giving her some solid foods for 3-4 weeks now.  Just once a day (usually at dinner).  Rice pudding and stuff.  She sits in her baby seat and eats with the rest of us!  It does get a bit messy -- But I've been warned it will get much worse.

From: BigFatty Entered on: December 18, 2007 2:08 PM

Early this morning (I'm told), Melinda was changing Vivi's diaper.  Mid-way through the change, the muzzle was off the cannon.  Vivi shot a stream of poop 8 feet across the room.  Luckily for Melinda, she was mostly out of the way and the throw rugs caught the brunt of it.  We are now a bit gun-shy.  A bare butts will only be allowed for brief moments and the diaper change will soon become lightening fast.  I'd better find my safety goggles.

Poor girl is starting to take after daddy......

From: NickNick Entered on: December 19, 2007 9:15 AM
Awesome Will.  I'm so glad someone else has had to deal with that.  Hunter managed a back door cannon shot on one of our walls when she was 5 or 6 months.  What you do is get the other diaper ready and slide it underneath the dirty one before removing the dirt one.  It takes a bit of finesse but is a life saver.

Congrads on the solid, Zilla.  Wait until her first bout with constipation.  Solids are a lot easier to deal with if you take out the smell factor.

Holy shit, are we actually talking about this??

Thanks for the card, Bertilicious.  I am afraid I am breaking my 'card'inal rule of parenting.  You should see what I mean in a few days.....

Cute pics.... what a stylin' little MoFo!

From: Heather Entered on: December 20, 2007 2:49 PM

Thanks Will and Jack for your cards as well.  Our little cuties are growing so fast!  Jack, hope we get to see you, Angie, and Anna while in GR.

Will, I'm cornfused! What cardinal rule are you breaking?  I don't see anything wrong with your photos or card.  Am I missing something?

From: Ross Entered on: December 20, 2007 3:35 PM
I think it's just that Fatty doesn't like getting pics of people's kids and being expected to carry them around or put them up somewhere.

From: BigFatty Entered on: December 20, 2007 4:42 PM

Exactly!  But, I can rationalize that cards are not the same as pics.  I can put them up as holiday decorations.  Then, when the season is over, I can... ummmm.... put them away.

My tune as changed a lot being over here.  I really enjoy looking at my friend's kids and sharing the mutual joy in these little bundles of poo.  Still, the preferred method of viewing is on JA or Flickr.  Photo cards are acceptable.... IMO.

Heather - Ang and I are looking forward of getting together too!  It'll be fun to compare notes and see your boy again!  I've turned into such a papa.  I'm always talking about Anna at work.

Can you make Christmas night at the Roches?  I haven't heard anything lately.

Bone - When are you in town til?  We gotta work a ZAGNUT outing in!

ANNA UPDATE:

She's 11 months old today... time has gone by quick, but now I can't imagine life without her!  She's still sleeping through the night (ever since 2 months old!), and usually goes to bed fine.  We have had a handful of going-to-bed issues recently -- red-faced, standing-in-the-crib style crying, but fortunately it's rare.

She can crawl anywhere and over things.  She can stand for several seconds on her own and walk a few steps before dropping:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28nKvCIISrc

We heard she should be able to climb stairs (something we keep her away from usually) and sure enough:  She was able to climb all the way up our stairs with no help (just a spotter) last week!

She also recognizes some words like "duck" (she'll look at her duck), "clap" (she'll clap her hands) and I think I finally got her to wave goodbye to me this morning.

So... one more month and she can have cows milk, honey and strawberries!  Can her first taste of chocolate be far behind?

Okay... anyone still reading?  I know I lost the Bone after "UPDATE"...  Laughing

How's the rest of the baby crew?

From: Bunky Entered on: June 30, 2008 9:22 AM

Jack, it just keeps getting better! She is at such a fun age. I loved the toddler years.

It is so enjoyable to watch them grow and experience everything for the first time.

Kids are amazing. They are by far, my greatest accomplishment in life...

From: NickNick Entered on: June 30, 2008 10:42 AM

Your kids just a showoff.  Reese is lagging behind a bit in the mobility department, but I'm in no hurry to add another pair of hands invading things they shouldn't, not quite yet.  I'll have to get a pic to upload here.  Maybe I have on this computer.  We'll see.

She growls and absolutely loves her big sister.  Hunter can get her to laugh doing just about anything.  She does wave goodbuye sometimes and even blows kisses.  One other thing she does well, get's teeth and fevers at the same time.  104 degrees yesterday.  Something viral.  Doctors couldn't find anything significant besides the fever.

I heard you were at the beach this Friday.  Looked like awesome weather.  Sweet, we're so close we get invited to the family birthday.   Thanks "Uncle" Jack.

On a baby picture related note, I have posted a couple of pictures of Hugo on the JA Flickr pool but for some reason they dont appear on the Flickr image bar on this site. I'm sure there has been some process fornification along thr way. Any way, here's Hugo at 9 months with red shoes and all.

Aww, very cute! Red shoes don't look too bad on him.

Since we're all throwing our kids onto the bandwagon:

William & Bubbles

William is 3, so he can't compete in cuteness with the babies and toddlers featured herein.  But I like this picture.

Ahh , 3.  I have a 3 year old boy that lives a couple houses down from us and he is a little demon.  Funny as hell to watch him terrorize his parents.
