Star Wars: Force Unleashed
Entered on: August 20, 2008 11:05 AM by NickNick

I just saw the trailer for the new Star Wars game: Force Unleashed and it looks awesome!!!  Somebody has to buy it for their game system so I can come over and play it with you.

http://www.gametrailers.com/game/3067.html

Yes, that's how it works.  You spend the money on the game and I get to live vicariously through you by making social calls every now and then.

I defintely want this game.  Sadly, it just gets added to an already huge list of games I want in the next couple months.

  1. Fable 2
  2. Mercenaries 2
  3. Rock Band 2
  4. Saints Row 2
  5. Gears 2 (I assume it's required)

Wow, I guess it's a sequel year.  All of these are being released by November supposedly.

Anyway, it does look very cool and I will be downloading the demo on xbox live tomorow when it's released.  Perhaps it'll be shifted up to a higher priority if I"m super impressed.

Rad, you left Hello Kitty off the list.

From: Radmobile Entered on: August 20, 2008 12:02 PM

I knew I'd forget something.  Thanks Bunky.

For the record, all those games on the list have at least some co-op to them.  In case anyone else gets them and wants to play.  I'm not sure which ones I'll get right away and which will wait for a special deal.

From: Jackzilla Entered on: August 20, 2008 12:34 PM

I'm in for Rock Band 2 (next month on 360!), Gears 2 (duh!) and maybe Saint's Row 2 (I actually had more random fun with Saint's Row 1 than GTA4).

From: Radmobile Entered on: August 20, 2008 12:49 PM

Check this out.  It sticks it to GTA IV pretty hard.

Oh and by the way, Saints Row apparently has co-op story mode through the whole game if you want.  Check Please!

I almost forgot.  You can make your character a girl, which is definitely an improvement over the first game.  This might sway Bunky, or even Jack (who often likes to play as a girl when given the option).

Yeah, that Star Wars game is on the top of my must-play list.  I can't wait to play it!

From: Radmobile Entered on: August 22, 2008 8:03 AM

Well I played the (Star Wars) demo last night.  It was alright, but not as fun as I'd hoped.  I'm sure it'll be better in the full version but the demo didn't sell me on it.  It'll be a renter or a bargain bin purchase someday.

From: RobotSpider Entered on: August 27, 2008 7:34 AM

The FU (ha ha) demo is available on Live now.  I played it.  It's super-sweet.  In the 15 minutes I played the demo, I force-pushed GROUPS of storm troopers, and threw an entire TIE-fighter across the landing bay of a battle cruiser.  Wow.

I know this isn't a console game and therefore beneath most of you but I think the gaming world has finally released the Greatest Game Ever.  Spore.

Oh my god, I forgot this was being released this month...  I have had the creature creator for a few months, and loved it.  I'm buying this when I get home!!!

From: NickNick Entered on: September 5, 2008 3:21 PM

Truly.  I might be able to wait until my birthday at the end of the month.  If I don't get it by then, I'm buying the damned thing myself.  I tried to be strong and keep this out of my house but it's just not going to happen.

The creature creator is awesome.  My 4 yr old daughter and I have made quite a few different animals.

From: NickNick Entered on: September 8, 2008 7:37 AM

I'm not truly sold until they include the genius Richard Cheese in a song set.

But still, that song list is still pretty sweet.  Too bad, by the time I get to play it with someone they'll have played all the good songs already and be sick of them and we'll have to play some crap by The Grateful Dead.  :)

From: Radmobile Entered on: September 8, 2008 9:41 AM

Well, there's nothing stopping us from singing any of the songs in a Richard Cheese style.  Except maybe the game boo-ing us off stage for singing in a different key.

So you obviously haven't heard of my hysterically funny vocal rendition of "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys?

They definitely could've chosen better tracks by Mastodon and Testament. But Peace Sells by Megadeth and Ace of Fuckin' Spades? Hell yeah!

Cicuit City is selling Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 for $14.99 right now!  I'm game if a bunch of us want to pick it up and play co-op on Live!  Who's in?  Rad?  Bunky?  Spider?  Ramshackleton?  I think there's even some free or discounted DLC available for it...

From: Bunky Entered on: September 8, 2008 3:47 PM

Is it anything like Call of Duty? If so, I am out.

I have to wait to get the packings out of my nose before I can make any public appearances for fear of disturbing small children.

As for Rock Band 2, I am looking forward to belting out some Jane's Addiction, Foo Fighters, RATM, and of course some metal because my husband will be obligated to play along.

From: Radmobile Entered on: September 8, 2008 4:12 PM

I think I'm out.  I've disvocered a catch-22 of sorts.  Waiting for the games to become cheap means I can get more of them, but by that time they're old news and my interest has moved on to newer and better games.  Hopefully this won't happen with Gears 2.

So Bunky, have you decided if you're gonna get Force Unleashed yet?  Did you try out the demo?

From: Jackzilla Entered on: September 8, 2008 5:01 PM

Wow, Rad... we used to have so much fun with Ghost Recon!  It seems you've been lost to the single-player Barbie times...  Frown

And I can't imagine not picking up Gears 2 -- it's only the sequel to the best game on 360, and all the funnest people on Live (that would be us on your friend's list) will be playing it.  But hey, if you'd rather sit and barbie up your single-player character, what can I say?  At least you play your 360, unlike Natron who's gone full Warcraft daft.

From: Bunky Entered on: September 8, 2008 4:37 PM

I am going to get Force Unleashed for a couple of reasons: 1). Being a Star Wars fan and owning a 360 I am obligated, 2). My nephews all keep talking about it, so if buy it, I know they will come over and hang out.

I actually bought Super Smash Bros. for the Wii for that reason. The nephews will move in on the weekends for a good game, and it is fun to have them around. I have actually never played our Wii though...

From: Bunky Entered on: September 8, 2008 6:01 PM

Maybe Natron could sell his 360 to Nick Nick at a bargain price...

From: NickNick Entered on: September 8, 2008 10:40 PM

Yeah, and you think I complain about not having enough time now?

If I did end up getting a new game system, I think it would have to be a Wii so that Hunter could get some use out of it.  Otherwise, I just couldn't justify the cost.

From: NickNick Entered on: September 9, 2008 2:24 PM

Well, everyone.  It was nice knowing you.  Once I get out done with dinner with the girls, I'm going out and purchasing Spore.  $50 worth of Heaven on a little CD.

You probably won't hear from me after that.  Not because I'll be playing the game, but because I'll be buried in a shallow ditch somewhere.  If that happens, please try to be understanding and don't point the finger too quickly at Megan.

From: Radmobile Entered on: September 10, 2008 6:16 AM

So how did it go Nick?  Are you still alive?  Was the game fun before Megan gave it to you as a suppository?

Ooh, the rectal rockets are never fun!

From: NickNick Entered on: September 10, 2008 9:15 AM

Actually.  I was shocked to find out she's getting me the game for my birthday.  See, it's not as bad as I make it sound.

Though, it's still going to be hard to wait these next couple of weeks.  Do me a favor, Spider.  If you've already gotten Spore, refrain from telling me how sweet it is until after the 23rd.

From: Radmobile Entered on: September 10, 2008 10:39 AM

Jack: Ok so I do want to get GRAW 2.  $15 sounds pretty sweet.  Who else will do it if I do?

I did enjoy playing Warcraft for a while.  I started to see how it could consume a person though so I got the hell out of dodge.  Plus when I play a game I want to be in a comfy chair or couch, not wherever my computer is.

I do miss the Ghost Recon Days.  We still have Rainbow Six Vegas we could play too right?  Or have you sold that Jack?

From: Bunky Entered on: September 10, 2008 10:41 AM

I forgot that I bought that game when it first came out and traded it in with Crackdown. I looked at my games played list and it was on there. I am out!

Keggman recommended it, and much like GTA4, which was highly encouraged by some people on here, it was a waste of my $64. However, seeing Robot's character capping bitches in a speedo did make GTA4 a little better.

From: Jackzilla Entered on: September 10, 2008 9:06 PM

Awright, Rad & I are both in on GRAW 2!  He's gonna pick us up our copies!  I'm not sure ifthe $15 deal at CC only runs this week or not.  Who else is in?  Bunky?  Spider?  There's a couple map pack DLC's that are free too!  We could have fun slummin' it!

From: Bunky Entered on: September 18, 2008 4:01 PM

Rad, did you get Force Unleased? I forgot it came out this week until I saw Ross playing it last night. He gave it thumbs up so far, so I went to GameStop and bought my first single player game and was heckled by Jack!

It is pretty fun. I did feel a little bad slaying Wookies though. They are so cute! It's exhausting using the Force!

From: Radmobile Entered on: September 18, 2008 4:16 PM

Nah, I'll probably get it some time later, or borrow Wonder's copy when he inevitably gets it.  I played the demo.  It seems like picking the right thing up with your force powers could be a pain, not that it usually mattered too much which things you picked up.

I picked up Rock Band 2 instead.  The band Annie and I started is called "Frook Break" per Zilla's suggestion.

Rad, what is the deal with orb in Fable II when someone joins your game? How do you get to see the other player on Co-op?

From: Radmobile Entered on: October 27, 2008 9:57 AM

You can change whose orbs you see in the game through the menus.  (Friends only, Everyone, none.)  When an orb is near you you'll be able to hear the player talking.  I'm not sure how joining another person's game works with the orbs.  I've only done it by the usual invite to game interface used with other games.

From: Bunky Entered on: October 27, 2008 11:22 AM

Rad, so there is a different setting to playing online, different than the way we played last week?

I was not impressed with the lag and camera movement. After playing Halo and Gears (if you can call what I do "playing"), it seems that the camera views could be so much better. I know that the mapping is different, but is it that much more complex?

When did you say the updates were coming?

From: Radmobile Entered on: October 27, 2008 5:54 PM

Oh, I think think that was all there is for multiplayer.  I haven't heard anything beyond wishful thinking about updates to the game.  It's still a fun game to play by yourself.  The multiplayer seemed like more of an afterthought though.  Maybe that's unfair of me to say.  It seems to work well at what it was designed to do.  It just isn't to my tastes  (or anyone else's to my knowledge).

Independant camera angles would've gone a long way to change my opinion, as well as being able to bring in your own character to other people's games.  Not just a generic henchman with the abilities of your character.

If my box goes out before GOW 2, I swear I will Find Mr. Gates and personally give him a True GOW diddle. meh.  I liked that game the first time when it was called Gears 1.

That didn't stop you from playing Fable 2...

Did she put the 'bosh on it for financial reasons?  Because I can understand that, if not respect it :)  But if she just wants to establish dominance, tell her to piss in your shoes and 'get da hell out mah console woman!'

I wonder: do those add-on fans do any good for preventing the RROD?  They're only ~$20 or so...

I've heard they don't do much more than make your box a lot louder.  Just what I've read.  I have been using a semi-permanant solution with one of those twin-bladed window fan/thermostat deals where you can set both fans blowing in, both out, or one in and one out.  It keeps the temperature in my cabinet around 5 degrees above ambient.  However, it hasn't prevented 3 RROD failures.  Mind you, these aren't case fans, they're 14in. fans moving hundreds of cfm.  If that doesn't prevent the RROD, the strap-on 60mm fans aren't likely to do much.

Well I got my repair process started and once again it will be free.  Aside from being apart from my games for a coule weeks, I'm a happy camper.

And yes the primary reason for the kabosh was financial.  Not that we coudn't afford it but more that we shouldn't.  (Weddings are expensive.)  I'm more excited for other games so this one will go on the back burner for now.  No big loss.  Like I said before, I'm sure everyone will still be playing it when I do finally get around to it.

I've never heard anything good about those fans.  In fact I've read they make things worse, but who knows how that could be proven.

A review of the new XBox Live Experience from CrunchGear

From: Jackzilla Entered on: November 1, 2008 8:56 AM

Well, I was joined by Crockett, Rad and BoomBoomBem last night in reviewing GEARS OF WAR 2 (labeled Not To Be Sold Before 11/7/08... it says nothing about playing before then!).  In a word:  Awesome.  This will be the new style for a while!

The multi-player is better with a lot of new options.  The party system is more like Halo 3 and allows you to change game modes and settings between games.  There are bots!  So you can play with mixed teams of computer controlled and real players!  You can play with teams of 5!  Horde mode ROCKS:  Co-op with up to 5 involving fighting against wave after wave of advancing locusts (with increasing difficulty).  Plus the "meat flag" mode is a hoot:  It's capture the flag but the "flag" is a person or locust that you must beat down and capture (he fights back!).

Probably 15 total weapons:  All the favorites plus many more (the flame thrower is way more usable than Halo 3's), smoke grenades now stun enemies... poison grenades?!  The mauler!?  Holy F!

Meat shields!  You can carry downed enemies and use as shields (or sweet diddling!).

Downed enemies can try and crawl away!  "Where do you think you're going!?"

10 new maps + 5 free downloadable classics from Gears 1 revamped.

Expect to find me playing late Thursday night when it releases!  EDGE and Bunky are confirmed also!

Meanwhile, Bunkybrewster has been spotted playing Viva Piñata TIP.

After all the business you gave me for owning it, I thought I at least had the obligation to point this outWink.

Oh Creeko, don't get all hernie over the thought of Co-op online... My daughter bought the game and have not even touched it. I did laugh when I saw your message though.

I am not exactly sure what the draw is to the game. From what I have seen it looks as if you are a farmer who never gets to kill anything and tries to collect pinatas.

I will send out a friend request to you from the other XBOX. You will not being seeing Viva Pinata on this one...

How did Zilla get to be so sweet?  That's like asking why rainbows are so pretty.  Connections, baby!

Hey, isn't that a song?  The Rainbow Connection!

IGN's GOW2 Review is up.  9.5, baby!  (I still call their 10.0 for GTA4 bullshittery):

    Closing Comments
If you haven’t figured it out by now, Gears of War 2 is what’s going to sell Xbox 360s this holiday season. It has non-stop action, fresh gameplay, varied environments, an engrossing storyline, multiplayer that will have people busy for years to come, and some of the nastiest and coolest kills I’ve seen in a videogame. It has its flaws when it comes to the technical side of multiplayer and the last act of the campaign and the voice acting might turn some off. Still, none of that comes close to holding back Gears of War 2 from its destiny: being one of the best games available on the Xbox 360.

Dude!  Now we're talking!  Dust that 360 off!  It hasn't logged in for almost a month!  I bet there's still a copy of BioShock up in there!

Bells played the Horde mode with me last night and we both love it!  GOW2 rocks!

I'm excited for the New Xbox Experience too.  Being able to copy games to the harddrive will be sweet and save on wear and tear on the DVD drive & disc (even if you do have to have it in the drive to prove you own it).  And who doesn't want to barbie up an avatar?

I might have to invite myself over to the Zagnut to experience some Gears 2 this weekend.

Well, I guess I'm a widow Friday night.  Since GOW2 comes out Friday, does that mean I have an errand to run during the day???

Maybe all the GOW2-widows can start a club on Facebook or where ever it is you girls like to hang out at.  Wink

Well, I got another RROD on my Xbox.  This is a refurb after my last RROD a couple of years ago.  I'm well outside my 3 year warranty period now, so it looks like I"m going to go get an Arcade and reuse my (admittedly tiny) 20GB hard drive.  I'd consider the Elite since it has the bigger drive, but a) I don't want to have to hassle with transferring from the old drive and b) is 100 GB worth $100???

From: Jackzilla Entered on: March 7, 2010 6:47 PM

Did you see the 250 gig Final Fantasy xbox?  Includes the game and an extra controller if you need it too (but $399).  Dude, isn't time to get a larger harddrive?  20gig?  Can you even fit all the Halo/Gears maps on that thing?

Meanwhile, Bells and I completed Uncharted 2 on the PS3 a few days ago.  Sweet ass game.  I haven't tried the multiplayer, but I don't want to get into PSN multiplayer when all my friends are on Live!  Not sure what else to get for the PS3 -- there's sweet games on the 360 I don't have time for.

From: Ross Entered on: March 7, 2010 7:23 PM

Yeah, I wish I could play Uncharted, I've heard they're both great games.  Oh well, I still think the Xbox is the clear choice.

20 Gigs does suck and I have to be vigilant about what I can keep on it, but it's just not worth a $1/GB!  That's what they call rape in some states!
