Politics - 2010 Style
Entered on: April 9, 2010 11:00 AM by Ross

I have been so incredibly disgusted by politics lately, in particular, the Republican party, that I don't know how I could bring myself to ever vote for a Republican for the forseeable future.

It's bad enough that this moronic Teabagger movement tries to claim that they're not exclusively Republicans - ok, I'll grant that they're exclusively extreme right wing Republicans - but the Republicans in Congress infuriate me more than they did even when they were in power, stomping all over any remotely progressive agenda.  Remember Tom Delay, "The Hammer" - cramming things through and ignoring the Democrats' pleas for fairness?  They sure don't.  All they want is to obstruct and bring down Obama, at any cost.  This solely what they excel at - sowing vitriol and telling lies with a straight face repeatedly in the hopes that people will just believe them.  And they do.

Today on NPR I heard New Gingrich at a Tea Party rally call Obama the most radical president in US history.  He was speaking very matter of factly and with no hint of hyperbole.  I just thought - really?  The most radical ever?  More than Bush pushing the Neocon agenda, just in the very last term?  Creating a war of choice in Iraq, killing tens of thousands, for no justifiable reason? That's not more radical?  Okay, maybe we can quibble over what radical means - perhaps wanton slaughter with little justification isn't radical as far as historical US policy goes.  But if that's the case, what is Newt saying?  That it's okay - even preferable - to kill people with little to no justification, than to try to provide your country's citizens with health care?  Because I'm pretty sure that's what he's saying.  If that's not radical, I don't want to be non-radical.  Ever.

So I've had it with Republicans as a party.  I think I have roughly since the early 2000's.  But I've also had it with cable news, obviously Fox News in particular, for dividing this country almost as their primary goal.  This article talking about how Sean Hannity says that Obama will go down as the worst president in history is so absurd, I don't even have words to discribe the level of my disdain.

But worst of all, I think I've had it with over half of our country's populace.  Let's face it: more than half of our country is very conservative compared to the rest of the world's developed nations.  They tend to vote Republican more than Democrat, and have for the past 50 years or so.  The fact that this continues to be the case is a point of deep sorrow for me.

The fact that these Teabaggers have such a hold on politics right now - that there seems to be so many of them - and to hear just how incredibly stupid they sound - makes me not want to live in a country where this happens.  When you have Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann as "leaders" of this movement - two brain-dead and dangerous bimbos - then something is deeply wrong.

At this point I feel like I would welcome a secession, or a least let the nutbags have their own fucked up backward country, just so I didn't have to deal with them.

Well said, Ross. And the problems with the Tea Baggers is that most of them do not have a clue of what they are protesting.

And they protest that we are sliding into Socialism. I contend that they would prefer that we become a Fascist state. Check out the 14 Defining Characteristics.

Good video.  I can only watch it in chunks, it's embarassing...

I am on a similar boat as you Ross.  I cannot believe all the lies and propaganda put out there by the Reps. and FOX.  But worse than that...  I can't believe the other Journalists are letting it go.  It seems the only person policing this is the frickin 'Daily Show'.  Journalists were supposed to operate to a higher standard.  The persistance of FOX's brand of Journalism make me doubt all Journalists now.

Its sad that FOX is taking advantage of people's trust to spew their propaganda.  There is so much information out there.  People look to their news to take a lot of complicated information and boil it down to stuff they can understand.  To abuse this trust is abhorrent.  Seriously, how many of us will read the Healthcare Bill in its entirely?  I feel sorry for people in this video.  They are mad because their trusted source of information told them what the Healthcare Bill was about.  But, it was all mis-information.  So without another 'trusted' source of information exposing FOX in its lies (or politicians), what are normal people to think?  How is it the established news channels are not calling politicians on their mis-information?  They just report on it.  In reporting it, they lead credibility to the statements.

If FOX news reported my semen prevented cancer, how many of its views would be sucking my dick?
