Strange evolutionary topic

Here' a link to a discussion on evolution and in particular the Aquatic Ape Theory (which I think holds as much water as a sieve) If you are bored though, there are some good discussion points.

The guy who started the tread was a dumbass. His beginning with the whole chimp evolution sealed his fate. One person took apart his arguement pretty well, but then I stopped. This is the internet, and I will not waste my time reading *facts* from psuedo-experts.

Yeah, I've heard the aquatic ape theory before as well. But the guy who posted it had some major holes. First and foremost in my mind was his idea of the conditions where intelligence is likely to develop being near the sea. Not only are his reasons absurd, but nobody fucking knows why humans evolved intelligence!

Anyway, yeah, the guy had a poor concept of evolution (didn't understand chimps and humans share a common ancestor but are not direct descendants of one another).

I realize the conversation is between a bunch of divers who are willing to give more credence to a theory that explains the dive reflex. However, in my opinion, they're not going far enough back in time to pin the origin of such things. It is unlikely that the dive reflex is a recent development in my mind. There are lots of ways we resemble sea-faring animals and those similarities have been around a long time.
